• Carry it with you at all times!
• Make sure you’ve signed it before you leave!
• Don't leave it at a restaurant in a communist country and then smoke cigars and drink rum the entire night, without telling anyone you lost it until the next morning, a few hours before your return flight.
• Keep a copy in your hotel room
• New US passports have an RFID tag in them, which can be read by someone in close proximity with a simple scanner (skimming; see: [1]. Invest in a passport holder to help prevent this.
